Nepenthe - Fun Fact 5

Does this picture ring any bells? Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't.

I posted it last August on Facebook while I was on vacation at the beach.

I was in love with the word and the fact that it was on a beach house.

Which brings me to the final Nepenthe Fun Fact.

In Nepenthe, Lucy calls Corey and tells her about the name of the beach house she's staying in with Grant and his family.

The name of that beach house?

NEPENTHE.

How did I come across the word?

It was the name of a beach house across the road from the one I was staying in last August. My sister and I had looked at the word every time we sat in the rocking chairs on the porch and finally, I mentioned it.

We looked up the definition and both thought it was perfect for a beach house.

And ta-da, that's the connection to how the word gets mentioned in the book for me to tie it into the story.

Hope you've enjoyed these fun facts! I did! :)

Nepenthe - Fun Fact 4

You know how the first chapter came to be, more about the process of writing Nepenthe, about Olivia's driving, and now it's time to learn a little about how some characters got their names.

I purposely placed the fun facts about Kristalyn and Olivia's driving before this one because you'd need to know those for the story behind this one.

Kristalyn is a NASCAR fan. (I've yet to understand this, but maybe I will after she's dragged me to a race.)

Anyway, after reading about Olivia's driving skills and me realizing the girl didn't have a last name, of course, NASCAR came up in our conversations. Honestly, I owe this fun fact to Kristalyn.

The most obvious character with such a last name now that you have NASCAR on the brain is Dr. Stewart (Corey's psychiatrist). Olivia is the other character. I didn't like how most sounded with her name, but I ended up finding Bayne and liked Olivia Bayne.

And there you have it! Only one more fun facts to go!

Nepenthe - Fun Fact 3

Have you ever been riding in a car where someone else was driving and you wanted to pressed your own foot to floor as if you could hit the brakes for them?

Or maybe you'd grab what some call the "oh, shit" handle because you needed something to hold on to just to feel safer?

Olivia's driving was originally a bit wild, but nothing too scary. The way I wrote it Corey's original reaction didn't really fit what I described.

I ended up tweaking it to fit his reactions and Olivia became a maniac-like driver whose passengers walked away, speaking of near-death experiences.

It became a fun trait about her, which is mentioned every so often in the book.

And, really, that's it for that fun fact. If you missed the first or second fun fact, then check them out. Be sure to enter the giveaway to win ebooks from the Bracing for Love series as well!

Nepenthe - Fun Fact 2

Day two of fun facts! Go here to read the first one. This FF has a great little story behind it.

A year ago, Kristalyn of the blog, The Sarcastic Palmtree, followed me on Twitter. A few months later, there was a tweet about YALLFest and about wanting to go. We ended up deciding to go together.

From there, our friendship grew.

As I've said before, writing this book made me nervous. So nervous, that I wasn't going to write it.

If you read Nepenthe, then you know this book is dedicated to Kristalyn and she's got a hunk of my acknowledgments.

I asked her if she would want to critique the chapters as I wrote them. She said yes. With every chapter, I sent her an email. While she read it and constructed her own emails in return, I was writing the next chapter. We did this throughout the book, molding it to be the best it can be.

This was the first time I've done something like this and it was such a fun experience. Not only did I get back helpful feedback, but I gained a best friend.

Thanks again, Kristalyn!

Come back tomorrow for another fun fact. In the mean time, you can enter a giveaway to win ebooks from the Bracing for Love series!

Nepenthe - Fun Fact 1

Hey, y'all! Finally, I've gotten all the Nepenthe fun facts done and ready to share. There are five in total and I'll be sharing one per day along with a little more detail about each fun fact.

So, let's get started!

I have 30 WIPs saved and I'm only currently focusing on three. Some of these are two years old. I'll start and then stop, finding another story that is actually ready to be told, or one that is way better than what I started.

Most of these will never see the light of day, but I keep them in case pieces of what has been written can work in another story.

Hence, this fun fact.

When I started writing Corey's book, I knew when along Bracing the Blue Line's timeline I wanted it to start. I first had to think what could happen, what sort of mindset he would need to be in, for his siblings to pay him a visit.

*insert light bulb flashing over my head*

I remembered the beginning of another story I started that would fit perfectly. After a little altering to better fit Corey and his story, I had the beginning of a first chapter.

There you have it! That's our first fun fact. Come back tomorrow, same time, same place, for the next one!

BRACE yourself! The guys are taking over.

This week is all about the Bracing for Love series. These books were my first tackling the all-male POV, either with three as in Bracing the Blue Line or just one as with Nepenthe. It's been fun and challenging to write these books and I look forward to possibly exploring more of the characters.

I'll be sharing my favorite BtBL teasers on Facebook and then here on the blog, I'll be posting fun facts for Nepenthe!

And of course, there's a giveaway too. :)

Nepenthe Cover, Preorder, & First Chapter!

Here it is! The cover for Nepenthe (Bracing for Love, #2)! I'm SO excited about Corey's book and I hope you are too! I'm in love with this cover. I can't wait to get my hands on a paperback and the swag I've ordered!

In case you don't remember, here's what Nepenthe will be about:
Corey Kennedy was once a star on the football team at Salem University with his two younger brothers, Jonathan and Patrick. He lived and breathed football, hoping to follow his father’s dream to make it in the NFL. His chance was stolen from him when he was injured and his future in the sport ended.

As did his long-time method of coping with depression, a battle only he knows about and one he refuses to acknowledge.
A year after moving an hour away from his siblings, Corey hits rock bottom. His life is falling apart piece by piece. He’s too lost in his mind to see a way out. Slowly, with the the help of Olivia, a pushy new neighbor, Corey begins to learn healthier ways of dealing with the problems in his life.
His ground is already shaky and unstable while he struggles to stand on his own two feet again. He must find the strength to withstand what life throws at him, or crumble and fall back into his bad, unhealthy habits, which could end the relationships Corey very much needs.

Make sure you add it to your Goodreads. You can also read the first chapter here. Nepenthe releases January 24, 2015, but it's available for preorder on Amazon, B&NiBooks, and Kobo right now!

And don't forget that if you sign up for my monthly newsletter before January 1st, then you'll be joining my lucky subscribers as they'll exclusively be able to read the second chapter and have the first chance to win an ebook! Learn more perks and sign up here.

BRACE yourselves! Time for an announcement!

Yes, I am very clever for thinking of that title. ;) As I said last Friday on Facebook, I would be making an announcement about the next solo book this week and today is the day to do it! I also said that it may or may not have to do with Bracing the Blue Line, and if my clever title is any indication, it does indeed have to do with that book.

Do you remember way back in July when I did that video where I announced details about Bracing the Blue Line? I said something about how I loved that it gives me "inner opportunities." Well, today, you're going to learn what I meant by that.

Because there are so many side characters in BtBL, some people can only want to know more about them. So, it only makes sense that they get a book too, right?

Right.

Which character is getting a book, you ask? Well, here are some hints.

To continue with the "POV theme" in BtBL, it's going to be a male.

However, there won't be 3 POVs like in BtBL. The book will be told in only his POV.

You probably thought he was a jerk, but there is way more than meets the eye with this guy than what you saw in BtBL.

My final hint comes from what I've been calling this WIP when I do talk about it, like in this Facebook post where I shared Mary's thoughts after only reading a few chapters. I call it- Secret WIP: (CK).

CK.

As in, Corey Kennedy, Lucy's brother.

That's right. He's getting a book.

If you were hoping it would be Patrick or Bo, don't fret! They may get a book as well, but no promises.

Okay, back to Corey's book, which is titled Nepenthe. Because this stems from BtBL and because I may write about the other two, I needed a series title, which is Bracing for Love.

So what is his book about? Just read this and add it to your Goodreads.

I hope you're excited about Corey's book because I am. I'm pouring my heart and soul into it and if you remember from this post, it's been a struggle writing him because of the issues he's dealing with. I'm glad I've stuck through it because Corey is a piece of work, but as I said then, this book needs to be written and I'm writing it. Can't wait to share it with you!

It'll be my first 2015 solo release with a date of January 24th. I'll have more to announce soon, I hope.   :) Until then, happy reading!

Sale Ending Soon!

If you haven't grabbed it yet, now is the time! The $2.99 sale for Bracing the Blue Line will end this weekend! Grab your copy from Amazon, iBooks, B&N, Kobo, or Smashwords!

If you need a little convincing, then here are some reviews!

"I adored watching this book unfold and seeing how the different relationships all interconnected through the lives of the others." -The Sarcastic Palmtree and her full review

"You will love them all & it's fun to see how they interact with each other as well as their girls. Not going to lie...2 are good but 1 totally swoon worthy! I'll let you decide for yourself on which one that is. If you like sports & the guys who play them you need to read this book." - The Two Brains of Book Reviewers and her full review

"All the characters were amazing and I loved reading a book from the POV from three different male characters!! It had everything I loved in a book, hockey, sweet characters, some drama, and a great ending!! I would definitely recommend this book.." - Amazon Customer and her full review

"Loved having more than 1 main character and having only the male pov was different in a good way!" - Theresa Bailey on Amazon

Thank you!

If you somehow missed it, Bracing the Blue Line released Saturday! And today, I want to thank everyone for their support, excitement, and love for this book!

Because of y'all, BtBL is doing fantastic. On Amazon, in particular, it has been in the Top 100 in Sports Romance since release day and in the Top 25 in Hot New Releases in Sports Romance since yesterday. That's pretty amazing!

So, thank you! Thanks to those who have left a review so far as well! If you haven't yet, please considering leaving an honest review. It makes my world go round! :)

I'm very happy that my guys are doing well and that readers seem to be enjoying them. BtBL is my favorite that I've written so far and it'll always have a special place in my heart. I'm glad I decided to do something risky for me (all male POV & 3 POVs) because it's working out!

I would like to do another book like this in the future, maybe with a different sport, but no promises! I'm really enjoying the male POV though. My next solo release, which will be in early 2015, will be told in the male POV, but of only one character. So, hopefully, you enjoyed reading this book and the male POV because there will be a few more at least. (If you like the duel, no worries! I have an WIP waiting to be worked on that is a duel POV.)

Before I go, I do want to let you know about a few things.

Price of BtBL will go up to $3.99 on Sunday, October 5, 2014. If you haven't bought it yet (at $2.99), do it now while it's on sale! Here are the links for Amazon, Smashwords, Barnes and Noble, iBooks, and Kobo.

There's currently a giveaway going on for a BtBL swag pack, plus $20 worth of gift cards, plus other fun swag and some ebooks! Check it out and enter here.

Also, I'll be making an announcement in the October newsletter! To hear the news first, be sure to sign up!

Again, thanks so much, y'all! <3

Bracing the Blue Line - Fun Fact 11

Well, here we are. A day before the big day with the very last fun fact. I hope you've enjoyed seeing them all and learning a bit more about how this book came to be.

Captain Neil Lawson
Goalie Grant Faison
Defenseman Winston Brooks
Who will be your favorite?

Bracing the Blue Line - Fun Fact 10

We're nearing the end of the fun facts. In fact, tomorrow is the last one! The day after that? Well, you'll have Bracing the Blue Lines in your hands and you'll rather read that than another fun fact!

You may have caught on by now that I love some old TV shows. M*A*S*H*, The Brady Bunch, Mister Ed, Bonanza, and The Big Valley. Ever since I heard the girl's name, I've wanted to use it in a book. It sounds so pretty and before this show, I'd never even knew of that name. I fell in love.

When Neil's one night stand needed a name, Audra was at the top of this list. I don't know why, but it fit her character before I knew what she was like.

Check back tomorrow for the very last BtBL Fun Fact! Be sure to go look at the BtBL Pinterest board to see all the teasers.

P.S. You should totally go check out all those TV shows if you've never watched them before!

Bracing the Blue Line - Fun Fact 9

We've been talking about some behind-the-scenes fun facts, mostly concerning the names of my characters and today is Winston's day.

Oh, I felt bad about this one. Everyone had a last name, but him. Poor Winston, right?

Wait.

It gets even worse.

To find him a last name, I scrolled through my Facebook friends and tested out their last names with his first name. No one was safe! That's how I ended up with Brooks. So, to the person I'm friends with that has the last name Brooks, thank you! :)

By now, we know how everyone got their name.

Everyone but Audra, which is Neil's pregnant one night stand.

Check back tomorrow to find out where her name came from! Be sure to continue following the BtBL Pinterest board for daily teasers.
Only a few more days to go!!! You can add Bracing the Blue Line to your to-read shelf and enter a giveaway on Goodreads. Don't forget to pre-order it for the special price of $2.99 on Amazon, iBooks, B&N, or Kobo.

Bracing the Blue Line - Fun Fact 8

Here's another behind-the-scenes fun fact, & it's about Neil!

It's always funny how these things work out. Once the baby had a name, I realized Neil needed a last name. He was just Neil for a long time. Last names right here lately don't come to me until way later in the book. It's odd, but it's how it works sometimes.

I was at a point where I wasn't sure what would end up happening with Neil. I like names that sound like they should go together, so I came up with a last name for him that I liked with the baby's name as well, just in case.

So, there you have it! That's how Neil became Neil Lawson.

Check back tomorrow for a BtBL Fun Fact about Winston! Be sure to continue following the BtBL Pinterest board for daily teasers.

Bracing the Blue Line - Fun Fact 7

As promised, today's fun fact is about Grant. If you missed the first, second, third, fourthfifth, or sixth, go check them out!

Many of you know that I live in North Carolina. The second or third fun fact said that part of Grant and Lucy's story was written before any of the others and that I wanted to start with their names first, then think of a story.

Well, Lucy's last name (Kennedy) just seemed natural. It flowed and I was in love with it immediately. I was already imagining the different personality traits she could have, and what her background might be, and why Grant was going to start doing those small favors for her.

Grant's last name honestly happened by accident almost. I went out with an old friend and drove by that town. I tested it in my head and then spoke it out loud and then boom. Grant had a last name.

Tomorrow's fun fact will be about Neil, so be sure to check back tomorrow and continue following the BtBL Pinterest board for daily teasers.

You can add Bracing the Blue Line to your to-read shelf and enter a giveaway on Goodreads. Don't forget to pre-order it for the special price of $2.99 on Amazon, iBooks, B&N, or Kobo. We're only a couple days away from the big day!

Bracing the Blue Line - Fun Fact 6

The next few fun facts are the behind-the-scenes type. We'll be talking more about the names of my characters and where they came from. If you missed the first, second, third, fourth, or fifth, go check them out!

All you really know at this point is this: Captain Neil Lawson wants to run for the hills when a one night stand shows up on his doorstep, pregnant with his baby. His past haunts him before fueling him into being a part of this girl and this baby’s lives, but it won’t be that easy.

Regardless of what happens, the baby needed a name. If you watch the TODAY show, particularly Kathie Lee and Hoda, then you know they have a feature called Johnson & Johnson's Baby of the Week. (Or something like that.) Anyway, I was watching one morning, knowing that baby needed a name, and then I heard it.

The perfect name.

And that's how I found it! Names are important, but scouring baby name sites just wasn't working for what I was searching for. I didn't know what that name was until I heard it in the segment.

Check back tomorrow for another BtBL Fun Fact, this time about Grant! Be sure to continue following the BtBL Pinterest board for daily teasers.
You can add Bracing the Blue Line to your to-read shelf and enter a giveaway on Goodreads. Don't forget to pre-order it for the special price of $2.99 on Amazon, iBooks, B&N, or Kobo.

Bracing the Blue Line - Fun Fact 5

I love this fun fact, but if you missed the first, second, third, or fourth fun fact, go check them out first. My sister probably won't like this one, but she should watch what she says! This is proof that what you say around me might be used in a book. ;)

Okay, this obviously needs an explanation. My sister sometimes says, “I love you like a back alley hooker loves crack.” There’s a particular instance when I was trying to think of an analogy and somehow, I ended up comparing a “back alley hooker” with a queen. It’s a really bad analogy, says so in the book, but I used it anyway because it always made me smile and think of my sister.

There's one more week to go until release! Check back tomorrow for another BtBL Fun Fact! Be sure to continue following the BtBL Pinterest board for daily teasers.

Bracing the Blue Line - Fun Fact 4

The fun facts continue! If you missed them, check out the firstsecond, and third.

As I mentioned yesterday, Winston’s and Maddie’s story wasn’t quite working out on it’s own two feet. It evolved a few times before I merged their story with Grant’s and eventually, Neil’s. After that, it progressed and changed more and more.

Every time I thought I had it all figured out, something else didn’t seem right to me. At one point, what was wrong with Winston’s story kept me from writing the other characters' stories. So, I tweaked and tweaked and tweaked, and tweaked some more.
Then, finally!
I fixed all the little bugs that were bothering me. I'm really happy with all those changes and hopefully, you'll enjoy them too.

Check back tomorrow for another BtBL Fun Fact! Be sure to continue following the BtBL Pinterest board for daily teasers.
