Teaser Thursday: Felix (The Ninth Inning, #1)

We're on the last teaser for the first book in Mary's and my new baseball series, which releases tomorrow! Last week, I shared a teaser from Abigail's POV and one in Felix's POV. Then, on Tuesday, I shared another one in Abigail's POV.

With this one,  y'all are getting your first glimpse into Blake and Hector, who both have books following Felix's.
Back in the locker room after showering and changing, Hector walks over to me with Blake in tow.

“We’re going to a bar to celebrate. You coming?”

“Yeah, sure.” I grab my cell and keys and then we all drive separately to the bar Hector suggested. As we walk into the place, I text Abigail.

Me: Don’t go to sleep yet, please. I’ll be there in a few hours for my post-game kiss.

I slip my phone into my back pocket as we take seats at the bar. The bartender comes over to us almost immediately. Her arms are both full-sleeves of tattoos, which are clearly visible because she’s wearing a strapless top. She has her nose pierced as well as three in both her ears, plus a bar at the top of one. Her black hair is pulled back into a ponytail and she flicks her gaze over each of us.

“What can I get you?” she asks.

We give her our orders and she walks away.

“Really, Hector?” Blake says. “She’s your type?” It’s then that I notice Hector is still watching her.

Without taking his eyes off her, he answers, “Beautiful women are my type and she definitely fits. Holy shit, she’s pretty.”

I glance back at the girl, seeing more tats on her back. She’s pretty, yeah. Blake shakes his head and laughs a little as she comes back, setting our drinks down in front of each of us.

“What’s your name, beautiful?” Hector asks, leaning towards her.

She smiles brightly at him. “My first name is Not and my last is Interested. Enjoy your drinks.”

Blake and I laugh as she walks away. Hector’s frown flattens and he glares when Blake says, “Looks like you’re not her type.”

“Unlikely. She probably just didn’t like that I called her beautiful. I’ll have her number before I go home.” He sounds so sure of himself.

“Good luck with that,” I laugh.

After our first drinks are gone, Blake and I get up to play a game of darts. Hector stays behind at the bar to order more drinks and to try again with the bartender.

I throw a dart and say, “Fifty bucks says he doesn’t even get her name.”

Blake glances at the girl. “He may be able to get that out of her, but there’s no way he’ll get her number. He’s not that good with women.”

“I’m hurt you’re betting against my odds, Blake,” Hector says as he sets three filled glasses down on a nearby table. “I’d expect it from Felix, but not from my wingman.”

“We aren’t betting against your odds. We’re betting on the fact that you have no odds,” Blake answers, throwing his dart. “Did she give us refills or did she send another girl?”

We look at Hector and wait for a response. “Another girl,” he mumbles, shaking his head.

I laugh, drink, and then take my turn with the dartboard. Blake and I play the game while Hector switches his attention between the girl and us. After our second round of drinks, we cut ourselves off and switch to water. We watch as he manages to get her attention and makes her wait on us. He still returns defeated.

“Felix sucks at darts. Play a game with me and maybe then you’ll have a better plan.” Blake chuckles as he hands Hector some darts.

I ignore Blake’s jab and check my phone. There’s a new text message from Abigail, so I open it.

Abigail: Just a kiss? I would figure you had more in mind.

I reply back that I’m on my way as I say, “Hey, guys. I’m going to go. Unlike some of us, I have a girl who is interested. Good luck though.”

Hector glares and Blake chuckles. After paying my tab, I head home. Abigail’s text has my mind running rampant, making me even more eager to see her.

Felix releases tomorrow, but you can still preorder your copy on Amazon, iBooks, B&N, or Kobo. Be sure to add it to your to-read shelf on Goodreads, too!
The Ninth Inning series presents Memphis Angels’ pitcher, Felix Hernandez.

Felix Hernandez’s life is baseball, baseball, baseball, and then his family. He rarely remembers anything that doesn’t concern the game. He’s never had a good enough reason to reprioritize his life or change his ways.

Relying on her sisters most of the time, Abigail Harris is trying to put her life in order. She’s now a graduate student and living on her own. It’s not until Felix deems her his lucky charm that her life begins to change. Now, Abigail isn’t sure if she should be focusing on her happiness or the professional baseball player.

Can the two handle any fastballs that come their way or will they strike out under pressure?

Teaser Tuesday: Felix (The Ninth Inning, #1)

Time for another teaser for the upcoming release of the first book in Mary's and my new baseball series. Last week, I shared a teaser from Abigail's POV and one in Felix's POV.

Today's teaser is in Abigail's POV.  I'm sure some of y'all can appreciate the bookish humor!
“I can’t believe what a great reading that was. He’s very passionate when he reads, don’t you think?” I hold my book close to my chest.

“Yeah, he is. Hopefully I’ll be able to read it on the next road trip.” He puts his in the backseat and he drives to the restaurant.

“You read the books you have signed? Not me. I set them on the shelf and worship them as idols.” I giggle because that’s almost the full truth. “I use my Kindle most of the time.”

“I’m not that committed. I don’t own an e-reader and why buy two copies of a book just because one is signed? The story doesn’t change you know,” he jokes.

“This date was going well until you said that. What do you mean you don’t own an e-reader? It’s a necessity in life. And the reason I buy two is because one is for my shelf and one is so I can read it. I don’t want to damage the one I have signed.”

“Do you somehow damage the one that isn’t signed?”

“Yes. You get fingerprints on it, you might bend the spine, and God forbid you might spill something on it.” How can he not care about the books?

Felix booms out a laugh and he pulls up to the curb to the valet. I reluctantly sit my book in the back and step out of the BMW.

“This date was going well until I realized you’re crazy,” he whispers close to my ear as we walk in. “Fingerprints, really? Books are meant to be read. If you bend the spine, it’s a good thing.”

“Oh dear, I don’t think I can hear such blasphemy. Let’s change the topic before I accidentally stab you with my fork.”

Felix releases this Friday, September 25, but you can preorder your copy now on Amazon, iBooks, B&N, or Kobo. Be sure to add it to your to-read shelf on Goodreads, too! I'll be sharing the last teaser on Thursday!

Teaser Thursday: Felix (The Ninth Inning, #1)

Time for another teaser for the upcoming release of the first book in Mary's and my new baseball series. Tuesday, I shared a teaser from Abigail's POV, and today, it'll be in Felix's POV.

You should be able to figure out why I picked this one. :)
“Oh my God, are you one of those calorie-counting athletes who drinks mushed up veggies in the morning mixed in with soy milk?” She makes disgusting face and I chuckle.

“Is there any other type of athlete? Do you really think this body comes from eating junk and then working it all off in the gym? I mean, I used to be that way, but a teammate got me started on all this healthy food and I felt way better, so it stuck.”

“So, you eat all kinds of veggies and shit like that? I can’t do that. I’m more of a bacon-meat-drowned-in-gravy kind of girl. Oh, and chocolate. At least one to two pounds a week. I can’t live without it.” She licks her lips, distracting me for a moment.

I groan. “God, that sounds so good.”

She leans over and whispers, “Come to the dark side, Felix. We have cookies, too.”

“You’re just one big temptation all the way around, aren’t you?”

Abigail shrugs. “I can be from time-to-time.”

“Where am I going?” I ask, in case I’m not dropping her off in the same spot as before.

“It’s up yonder.” She points ahead, but I’m laughing too much to pay attention to where she pointed.

“Yonder? Seriously? I didn’t think people actually said that.”

“You better learn the language, Mr. Cali, because that’s a very technical term.” Her voice is serious as can be.

“Yeah, I can tell,” I say, still chuckling.

“Just pull over by the curb. Is that better directions for you to understand?” She giggles.

“Yes, thank you.” I park and get out to open her door, switching back into professional chauffeur mode. “Have a good day, Miss Abigail.”

Teaser Tuesday: Felix (The Ninth Inning, #1)

Hey, y'all! We're getting closer and closer to the release of the first book in Mary's and my new baseball series. Pretty soon, you'll all be able to read Felix. In the mean time, I'm hoping you'll enjoy a few teasers with me.

This first one is on Abigail's point-of-view.
“Is there a certain player out there that you’re staring at?” LA leans over.

“No,” I gruff at her with my mouth full of food.

“If you would eat that hot dog a little sexier, he might come over later.”

I can’t help the laughter that bubbles up. My sister sure doesn’t pull any punches and I love her for that. “Exactly how can you eat a hot dog sexily? I mean, I don’t think he wants me to bite his dick and chew. Ew.” I shake my head.

“Jeez, I hope he isn’t into the kinky, crazy shit.” LA makes a disgusted face. “I’m saying don’t eat as if you’re trying to win an eating contest.”

This only makes me laugh harder. LA is the only one who can turn my mood around. She never dodges anything. When our parents died and I was in my deep depression, it was LA who eventually slapped me across the face and woke me up. Literally.

After I finish my hot dog, and not look like a porn star doing it, I chug about half my beer as I tell LA about my hectic semester. It’s then I hear someone whistling from the field and I see Felix staring at me.

“Can you catch?” he yells.

“Yes.”

He tosses the ball in his hand to me and I catch it with one hand. “Didn’t even spill your beer,” he laughs.

“I’m a pro.” I wink and watch him, still chuckling, go into the dugout. I rotate the ball in my hand and look at it, and I know LA is waiting for an answer from me. “He saw me last week and took me to school, and then he saw me again later that night and offered to go running with me. That’s all,” I quickly explain.

“And why aren’t you in your short, short running shorts and a sports bra with him every single day? And why the hell am I hearing about this now?”

“I forgot, it’s not a big deal and I’m not a runner, why would I go?”

“Because that’s fucking Felix Hernandez, that’s why.”

Felix releases September 25, but you can preorder your copy now on Amazon, iBooks, B&N, or Kobo. Be sure to add it to your to-read shelf on Goodreads, too! I'll be sharing another teaser on Thursday!

Without a Doubt, I love these shirts!

Here's the first look into some of the Without a Doubt swag. I am in love with these t-shirts. The cover looks beautiful on them.

Now, let me explain the front of the shirts. As you can see, I've described the characters...sort of.

Emerson is comfy, prettier, sweeter, experienced, and a cover hog.

Eva is nosey, older, wiser, funnier, and quicker on her feet.

They sort of keep track of their adjectives in the book. Here's a little unedited teaser, showing how it starts.

His thumbs knead my hand for a bit until he asks for the other one.

“You know, I think I'm going to be the one having to convince you to keep me around,” he says once he's done.

“Are you kidding me? You just massaged my hands for me. You're a keeper.” He laughs, but then I realize what he said, and add, “Why do you think that?” I turn my head, barely able to make out the grin on his face.

“You're older, wiser, quicker on your feet, and prettier. You're taking all the good adjectives from me.”

I try not to giggle. “Would you like the prettier one then?”

He chuckles. “Yes, thank you."

So, that's where it comes from! Last thing I'll add is that there's a bit of a story behind Emerson having the "experienced" adjective, and I think it's a bit funny, if I say so myself! You'll have to read the book to find out what it is. ;)

I really, really, really can't wait for y'all to meet Eva and Emerson on December 18th. That's all I have for now!

Preorder Without a Doubt on iBooks, B&N, or Kobo, and add to Goodreads.

Oh My Captain: Ashton Campbell

At last, we've reached the fourth captain, Ashton Campbell. This book was really fun to write and I think Mary will agree that the kids had us cracking up sometimes, like with this excerpt.

When we make it to the living room, I tell Reed to show Sadie where all the extra pillows and blankets are, so we can fix a makeshift campout on the floor for them. Lexie helps me get them situated before we take a seat on the couch behind them. I throw a blanket over us and reach over to hold Lexie’s hand under it. She smiles and interlocks our fingers. The previews seem to be taking forever, the current one featuring a talking baby in an animated movie, releasing soon.

Sadie looks back at Lexie and suddenly asks, "Mommy, can I have a brother? A girl at school said her mommy is giving her a brother, and I want one too."

Lexie glances at me, like I could help her out, but she’s on her own. "Um, I don't know,” she begins carefully. “I need to a daddy to help me have a baby, like I had your daddy to help me have you."

She doesn’t respond right away, which worries Lexie, judging by her anxious sneaky looks to me.

“Mr. Ashton is a daddy,” Sadie adds, glancing at me. “He could help you, Mommy. Please? I really want one.”

Lexie is mortified. I kind of am too. The poor kid doesn’t know what she’s really saying.

“Hey, could I have a brother too?” Reed perks up. “Are you and Mom going to give me a brother one day?” Oh, no. This just got worse. Reed turns to Sadie and grins like he has a bright idea before turning to me. “If you are a dad and Ms. Lexie is a mom, does that mean you could give me and Sadie both a brother?”

My mouth opens and closes numerous times, but I can’t manage to say anything.

"I…” Lexie tries before finally thinking of something. “Why do you two want a brother?"

"Our friend at school said she would have someone to play with all the time. I want someone to play with all the time,” Sadie explains.

“Me too,” Reed agrees.

“You already have that. You have each other because you’re best friends. Y’all play together all the time,” Lexie points out.

Sadie smiles at Reed. “Yeah, he is my best friend. I guess we don’t need a brother.” A movie about a dog previews next.

“What about a puppy?” Of course. “Could I have a puppy? A boy at school says he has a puppy and that they play fetch. I want a puppy too, Mommy.”

“If Sadie gets a puppy, I want one too, Dad.”

God, what is wrong with them? At least we’re moving the topic away from babies. “That’s something you better talk to your mom about, Reed.”

“Well, do I get one?” Sadie asks again.

“I don't know. A puppy is a lot of responsibility. Maybe we should think about a fish instead,” Lexie suggests.
Sadie’s eyes light up with excitement. “Like at the aquarium?! That sounds even better than a brother or a puppy! Can we get a fish?”

“Oh!” Reed exclaims. “Can I get a shark then?”

“No.” This conversation needs to end soon. Thankfully, the movie finally starts. “Be quiet, the movie is starting, and I don’t want to miss anything.” Running my thumb over Lexie’s knuckles, I lean over and whisper, “I’m thinking they should be homeschooled from now on.”
Our muse for Ashton is TJ Oshie, a player for the St. Louis Blues.  He seems to be a good guy, good player, and that fits the bill for Ashton.

Oh My Captain: Carson Lee

First, it was Hudson King, then Brody Ross, and now, Carson Lee from the Oh Captain, My Captain series. Who can resist a bad boy? Carson Lee is more than meets the eye and Kinley Wright is the perfect chick to keep him in line.

As per usual, here's an excerpt before we get to the muse and giveaway!

“Why?”

"What do you mean ‘why’? I have the means to do so and the kids enjoy it. Why wouldn’t I?” Seems pretty simple to me.

"Have you looked in the mirror? You’re Carson Lee. You’re the bad-boy of hockey. Nowhere on your resume does it say, ‘good samaritan’.”

"That’s not who I am to them and there’s a reason it’s not on my resume.” Conversations like this for example. Who I normally am wouldn’t coincide with the guy who visits kids in hospitals anyway, so it’s good that no one knows. It’s no one’s business either. “I do something good, shouldn’t you be happy about that? Just smile and say, ‘That’s nice of you, Carson. I’m surprised, but it’s still nice.’ Or smile and keep your thoughts to yourself. That works too.” I try not to be snappy, in part because I do hope she’ll smile. So my voice is as nice and casual as I can make it. I even smile at her.

"If you’re trying to get me to smile, it’s not working. Although, I am surprised, didn’t think you had it in you. May I ask who Gracie is?”

"No,” I answer curtly.

"Oh, okay.” She drops the topic for a moment. “I’m still surprised that you have a good side.”

I shrug. “Well, I do.”

"And all this time I thought the only thing you did good was have sex with all of Alabama.”

"Good is a huge understatement when referring to sex with me. If good is all the women are saying, then I’m slacking,” I say seriously.

Kinley smiles and cracks up in a laugh but quickly covers her mouth.

"That’s one!” I point at her, grinning. “It should count for two since you laughed.”

She gazes at her drink before looking back at me. “You must have slipped something into my soda, and it’s one, not two.”

Our muse for Carson is Tyler Seguin. Seguin is a young hotshot player for the Dallas Stars and like Carson, he has tattoos. What's not to love?

Oh My Captain: Brody Ross

Yesterday was about Looking for You, but today, I'm featuring A Hockey Player's Proposal from the Oh Captain, My Captain series.

How could I not love this couple when Selene has a dog named Bonkers?! I love Brody's brother and Selene's best friend, too. Not to mention, our muse for captain Brody Ross is sooooooo hot.

But first, here's an excerpt for you!

We begin opening boxes and I ask Brody where he wants his stuff, but he just shrugs and tells me to put most of it wherever it looks like it should go. So that’s what I do, setting things here and there. But when I pull out a photo album, I’m so, so, so tempted to look. The thought of cracking this open and seeing all the pictures inside is seducing me by the second as I stare at the plain black cover

"Selene?”

I look up at the sound of Brody’s voice. Apparently, I’ve been idle for too long. “Sorry. Where would you like this?” I ask, holding it up for him to see, even though he’s standing in front of me, so he already knows what it is.

Brody slowly smiles. “You want to look, don’t you? Are you having to fight your stalker tendencies, Selene?”

"What? No. I don’t want to look. You’re enjoying this too much, you know.” I walk away from him with the album and set it on the shelf underneath his coffee table. Brody chuckles when I go back to unpacking, ignoring him in the process. We finish with the living room soon after and move to more boxes. I go to open the next one, but Brody places his hand on mine to stop me.

"I have to warn you.” He grins.

"About?”

"This is all my hockey-related stuff and a few more photo albums. Sure you can handle that?”

I glare at him. “Go to your own boxes, Brody.”

He laughs, but he does go. The first box has two, thick photo albums in it. When I pick one of them up, a picture falls out. I retrieve it to see two of the cutest little boys I’ve ever seen, balancing on a man’s shoulder, obviously their father. The heat from Brody’s body hits me as his breath tickles my neck before he speaks.

"You couldn’t resist, could you?” He laughs.

"Ha. Ha. Is this you and your brother?” I ask, even though I know it has to be.

"Yep. We were four, I think.”

"Y’all are so adorable.” I look from the picture up at Brody. “What happened to you?”

"What?” He takes the picture and walks around to the other side of the box so he’s standing in front of me. “Are you trying to say that I’m not adorable anymore?” He grins.

Nope. Not adorable. He’s downright gorgeous, especially with that smile. I snatch the picture from him, open the album, and stick it inside. “No, you’re not. All that hockey is actually working against you.” He laughs, like he knows I’m lying through my teeth.

Our muse for Brody is the captain of the Colorado Avalanche, Gabriel Landeskog. Like Brody, he's Swedish, has a twin, and both were young when they became captains.

The LAST You Before Me Teaser!

Oh. My. Goodness. This is the very last You Before Me teaser! All that's left is the release! Is it Saturday yet?! Check out all the previous teasers if you missed them. Don't forget that you can also read Chapter One. As I said Tuesday, it's in Ryan's POV. Enjoy!

My stomach sinks because whatever Gabe is hoping to gain from me, I'm sure this will end up like everything else. I won't be good enough. Not for a relationship, not for him, and certainly not for his love. Everyone expects certain things from me, expectations I've never been able to reach. The odds have been against us from the start. His parents don't think he should be seeing me. My parents don't think so either because he's too old. Could something last between us if we're doomed to fail from the start according to those around us?

You Before Me will release this Saturday, June 21, 2014. This is your last chance to pre-order it for the special price of 99 cents on iTunes or B&N. You can also subscribe to my monthly newsletter and elect to receive the release day email for a chance to win a YBM swag pack! Be sure to add it on Goodreads and follow the Pinterest board to see all the pins.

Now, please excuse me while I go run in circles, screaming.

Teaser Tuesday - You Before Me

It's time for the second-to-last You Before Me teaser! There is only one more left before the release! It's time to go into crazy-anxious mode. Check out the first twothe thirdfourth, fifthsixth, seventheighth if you missed them. Don't forget that you can also read Chapter One.

These last two will be in Ryan's POV. Today's is short and sweet. Enjoy!

What does Gabe expect from me? That's what I need to know. It all comes down to that one question, and I want an answer. He's never told me his expectations. If I knew that, then I would feel a hell of a lot better about us. Whatever we are. I would know how to move forward and whether I bury my feelings or go with the program to let the pieces fall where they may.

It's time for the eighth You Before Me teaser! There are only two more left before the release! Holy moly, right?! Check out the first twothe thirdfourth, fifthsixth, and seventh if you missed them. Don't forget that you can also read Chapter One.

As I said Tuesday, this week's teasers revolve around a shooting scene that happens in the book. This time, we're in Gabe's POV.

Before I can answer, Owen bursts, “You've already slept with her?”
God, what is wrong with him today? He's acting worse than usual. All eyes are on me, waiting for me to confirm or deny. Especially my father. He's been quiet, but he's been listening. Ryan watches me, waiting as well.
“Don't y'all know it's rude to talk about this in front of Ryan?”
“Better you say it in front of me than behind my back. Topic doesn't matter,” she inputs.
“Yes, but we're supposed to be gentlemen.”
Before anything else can be said, my father clears his throat. “Enough. We're out of ammo and skeets. Time to pack up. My wife is fixing supper as usual, if y'all want to head there.”
That's my father's way of testing me. To see how serious this thing is with Ryan and if I'm ready for her to meet my mother. “We already have plans. Thanks, though.”

Until next week when I'll share the final two teasers! Let's all take deep, calming breaths. Ryan and Gabe will be here soon!

Teaser Tuesday - You Before Me

It's time for the seventh You Before Me teaser! There are only three more left before the release! Check out the first twothe thirdfourth, fifth, and sixth if you missed them. Don't forget that you can also read Chapter One.

Remember last week when I shared a mini teaser on Facebook to go with the shooting pins I posted on Pinterest? Well, both teasers for this week are from that same scene! Enjoy.

“Are you doing okay, Ryan?” He asks carefully.
“Are you sure you know what you're doing?” I hate that I can hear my apprehension in my voice.
Gabe gives me a hearty laugh. “I'm a cop. Of course I know how to use a gun.” He stops what he's doing and walks over to me, running his hands up and down my arms between my elbow and my shoulder. With his lips against my forehead, he soothingly adds, “If you don't want to, you don't have to.” Gabe looks down at me, waiting to see if I'm going to bail or not.
“I'm just nervous. That's all. Let's do this.” I have no confidence in myself at all, but I trust Gabe, especially with this.
He nods and leaves to go set up the target. There's a post about the height you would use for a fence, and he tapes it to a board that's nailed to the post. He also places two stacked cans of soda on top of it. Gabe walks back to me, grabs the shotgun, the largest of the guns on the table, and tells me to get the earmuffs.
My eyes widen, my jaw hanging down by my knees. “That's what you're starting me with? A shotgun? Are you sure?”
“Yes, stop questioning me.” He doesn't snap at me like I was expecting. Instead, his words are gentle and sure.
I grab the protective earmuffs and follow him.

Teaser Thursday - You Before Me

It's time for the sixth You Before Me teaser! Check out the first twothe thirdfourth and fifth if you missed them. Don't forget that you can also read Chapter One.

Today's teaser is in Gabe's POV and they are taking a bubble bath! Enjoy!

“The point of this is to relax,” she whispers, leaning her head backwards to rest on my left shoulder.
I let my lips brush her ear as I say, “Are you not relaxed?” My fingers are twitching to touch her and leave their current place on the sides of the tub. I move them to her shoulders, moving downwards under the water, deciding to stop once I've reached her hips.
Ryan's cheeks lift when she smiles, her eyes closed. “Not yet. Give me time. I was just telling you, Officer O'Connor. You seem kind of stiff,” she bubbles out a laugh.
Smirking, I ignore her comment. My fingers begin to thrum on her hips, and I start moving them up her stomach. My thumbs just barely brush over the underside of her breasts. Ryan's eyes open.
“We're supposed to be relaxing,” she mutters, turning to look at me.
I grin. “Isn't that what we're doing?”
“Nope. While you are very tempting, Gabe, I've decided I don't want to have sex with you.”
My hands return to lay flat on her stomach. “Oh yeah?”
“Not today anyway. You've inspired me.”
“I have?” What is she talking about?
Ryan grins. “Yep. I'm going to behave better. We'll see how long it lasts.”

Teaser Tuesday - You Before Me

Who's ready for the fifth You Before Me teaser! Well, you don't have to wait because it's here. Check out the first twothe third, and the fourth if you missed them. Don't forget that you can also read Chapter One. This week's teaser is short and sweet in Ryan's POV. Enjoy!

“Do I get a kiss before I go?”
“Do you want one?” He answers, clutching my hips, curling his fingers into my back.
“Yes.” There's no need for me to say more or anything other than that. Yes is the truth, and I don't see the point in saying otherwise.
Gabe smiles, looking dangerously sexy now as he eliminates the space between us. I've had plenty of kisses before, but none as addicting and consuming as Gabe's. His make me feel unhurried yet overwhelmed from the mere presence of his lips on mine.

Teaser Thursday - You Before Me

It's time for the fourth You Before Me teaser! Check out the first two and the third if you missed them. Don't forget that you can also read Chapter One. This teaser is in Gabe's POV and happens on Halloween night. Gabe and his partner, Fredrick, saw Ryan and her best friend, Viv, stumbling along the sidewalk downtown and decide to take them home.

“You owe me,” I tell her, although she probably won't remember tomorrow. “Is today really your birthday?” I can't help but ask.
“Yes. That's what I said, Gabe.” She laughs softly. “Funny, right? I was born on Halloween and I'm my parents' worst nightmare. How fitting.” Ryan starts giggling like it's actually funny.
It kills me when she says things like that, but I know what she means. I've seen it firsthand. I want to ask her why she didn't tell me about her birthday. Instead, I ask where her key is as we reach her door. She reaches into her bra and I remember how she did that when that prick had her up against her door that one night.
“Safest place,” she says, handing it to me.
I hold her against me and unlock the door. “Fredrick, we're just going to lay them in her bed and then we're leaving.”
“Okay.”
“You know,” Ryan starts. “I could have fucked four different guys tonight. Four.”
I clench my jaw as we get the girls into bed. “Oh yeah?”
“Yep. But I didn't,” she sings, shaking a finger at me. “I'm supposed to be behaving, and I would have felt bad. Because of you, Gabe. Are you mad?”
We pull the covers over them. They look ridiculous in their costumes while they lay in bed. Viv has already passed out. Fredrick leaves wordlessly.
“No, I'm not mad,” I answer.
“I didn't tell you about my birthday. Are you mad about that?” Ryan squints her eyes, pulling her brows together as she frowns, looking worried over the possibility that I might be upset with her.
I lean down and kiss her forehead. “No, not mad. I'll see you tomorrow, okay?”
She nods, already drifting to sleep.

Teaser Tuesday - You Before Me

I'm back with the third You Before Me teaser! If you missed the first two, go here and then come back. Don't forget that you can also read Chapter One. This teaser is in Ryan's POV. All you need to know is that a guy, whose name she can't remember and is referred to as 43, takes her home from a party.

“I'm not feeling well,” I repeat. “Thanks for the ride, but I'm going inside. Alone,” I add.
His lips move up the left side of my neck, so I turn my head to the right by instinct. His hands grip my waist tighter as he puts more of his body weight on me. “Ry,” he starts.
“Ryan.” Seriously? How many times do I have to correct him? “You don't need to try to change my mind. The answer will still be no.”
That makes him stop kissing me. His eyes turn dark as he stares at me, his hold stronger than ever. “No? You didn't hesitate before, Ry. Everyone on campus knows that you're an easy lay and now you're telling me no?”
“I may be easy, but I'm not that easy for you tonight.” I try to push him off me, but it's impossible. He's not budging. “Get off me.” I attempt to make my voice as level as possible, but even I hear how it trembles a little.
“Is there a problem?”
At the sound of his voice, my head snaps to the stairwell. 43 isn't paying him any mind yet. Gabe is standing rigid with his arms by his side, hands in fists, and he is not looking happy at all in his police uniform. His deadly stare is trained on 43. What is he even doing here?

I'll be back Thursday with a teaser in Gabe's POV.

My Next Release & Teaser Tuesday!

Today is a BIG day and I’m glad you’re here with me. I have some angry butterflies in my stomach right now, and I’m only announcing a few details! I’m so very excited though. You’re probably thinking, “Excited about what?!”

My next book, of course!

I’m about to announce the title and the release date!

But first! I must tell you something.

Do you remember that poll where I wanted you to pick a number and I promised that “you’ll learn why later!” Well, later is now. I picked those numbers as possible release dates for this book. All I knew was the month I wanted it to release and about which week. I put a date range in random.org and then got those four numbers. So I figured I should let y’all in on the action and have YOU choose the actual date.

And y’all chose 21.

Now, let’s get back to this title business. This is for Ryan and Gabe’s book, a New Adult Romance stand-alone. You can learn more about them here in case you missed my birthday post.

On June 21, 2014, you will meet Ryan and Gabe in You Before Me. I’m crazy excited about this book and I hope you are too. Go ahead and add it to your TBR on Goodreads. I'll share the description with y'all soon.

However, if you are a subscriber of my monthly newsletter, then you’ll be able to read that on April 1st when I send out the next issue. If you haven’t signed up yet, learn more and subscribe here.

Before I go, I'll share two small teasers, one from each POV.

Ryan's POV:
He gives me the vibe of a pure, 100 percent good guy. Maybe it's that stupid girl in me, but it makes me a little wary. There has to be a kink in his shiny exterior. It's so the stupid girl talking, trying to rationalize it because guys can't simply be good.

Gabe's POV:
As our night dies down and we head to back to her place, Ryan becomes a dangerously enticing woman, slowly luring me in. There are the simple touches like her hand high on my thigh as I drive with those fingers of hers trailing a carefree pattern. There's her laugh, which is ridiculously sexy. It's almost as if she knows just the exact laugh that will turn a guy on. And then the tempting, dirty words she seemingly casually throws out about what could come.
By the time we make it up the stairs and stand outside Ryan's apartment door, I've been captured. My mind and body are capable of thinking of only one thing. She's lets go of my hand to unlock her door, but she doesn't push it open. Instead, she turns, leans against her door, and tugs me towards her with a sexy, sly smile. My chest is flush against hers, my hands clutching her hips. A fog officially clouds my mind as my senses zone in on her lips and this killer body. I don't even get the opportunity to be the one to lean into her first because Ryan does it.

That’s all for today, folks! Stay tuned for their Pinterest board to be unveiled later this month.

What is this “WIP” I speak of?

I’ve been talking about my WIP (work in progress) a lot on Facebook lately. I even shared a tiny teaser in December. But who are these characters and what is this WIP about?!

I’ll tell you all about them!

Not really. Sorry.

I’m only going to give you a bit of information. As an awesome perk, my newsletter subscribers already know all this because I told them first in February’s newsletter.

This book is a New Adult Romance standalone featuring female lead, Ryan Kavanaugh, and male lead, Gabe O'Connor. Ryan is a 19 (almost 20) year old college student. Gabe is a 25 year old police officer. This WIP is set in eastern North Carolina and that is all you get to know for now.

Maybe I’ll share more about this pair later this month.

Or maybe I won’t.

You’ll just have to wait and find out.

A Snippet from the Next Project

When I'm not with Emily and Jake, I'm working on one of my many projects. About two weeks ago, I was in one of my funky moods, sitting on the porch steps while Bartley tended to his business one last time for the night. It was a bit of inspiration mixed with this relentless need that had been following me around all year. What better way to explore that than to turn it into a story?

I can't shake this need, just like my MC, Chloe, can't. My therapist keeps telling me to tamper down the impulse and this new book is going to be my way of coping with that impulse until I can do something about it.

Without further ado, enjoy this little teaser.

Perfectly centered, the stark moon hovers above me, daring me to look away. And I do, but only to admire its counterparts. With surrounding hazy but sheer clouds and the constant glimmer of stars dotting the heavens in just the right spots, my view becomes barely complete. Just as the thought occurs, the missing piece ever so causally flies through the air, a blinking light marking its journey. A bleakness travels through my heart, darkening everything as it passes. The same hope I always get when I'm out here whispers in my ear. That taunting desire that sweeps through me every night, singing seductively, begging for me to act, gripping me passionately.
Go. Fly away. Coast through the clouds and never look back. Flee across the ocean and land somewhere foreign.
My eyes prickle with the unshed tears. It's always been like this and I don't know why. I observe the sky every night, watching airplanes, and wishing I could fly away.
