Captain King, Teaser, Giveaway, oh my!

This week is all about the Oh Captain, My Captain series. You may or may not know who our muses are for the captains. Therefore, this week, I'll be sharing that, some teasers, and a giveaway, of course! If you haven't figured it out by the title, today we're venturing back to Looking for You.

I like to consider Hudson and Ellie our sweet couple, so I've included one of my favorite tidbits.

“This is my favorite thing about this place. I love to sit on the porch,” Ellie says, resting her chin on my shoulder as she looks at me.
“Really? So if you’re not in a good mood, I should make you sit out here with me so you will feel better?”
She smiles and nods. “Mhm. Thank you so much for the dress and everything. I still can’t believe you did that.”
Angling myself towards her better, I kiss her softly and rest my forehead against hers. “It was my pleasure, Ellie.”
Her eyes search mine for a moment. I catch myself wondering what she’s thinking, what does she see, and what she’s searching for? Before she can say anything, I push her hair behind her ear, my hand staying tangled in her hair at the base of her neck and mumble, “You’re gorgeous.”
My eyes keep jumping between her mouth and her eyes.
Faintly, Ellie says, “What are you waiting for?” The corner of her mouth lifts a little into a smile.
“You,” I answer before pressing my lips to hers.

On to the muse!

Captain Hudson King took on a few similar traits from our muse, Nathan Gerbe. Gerbe plays for the Carolina Hurricanes and is the shortest player in the NHL at 5 feet, 5 inches. (Thus, where Hudson gets his height from, although he's a bit taller.) Gerbe doesn't back down and we liked that about him.

Bracing the Blue Line - Fun Fact 5

I love this fun fact, but if you missed the first, second, third, or fourth fun fact, go check them out first. My sister probably won't like this one, but she should watch what she says! This is proof that what you say around me might be used in a book. ;)

Okay, this obviously needs an explanation. My sister sometimes says, “I love you like a back alley hooker loves crack.” There’s a particular instance when I was trying to think of an analogy and somehow, I ended up comparing a “back alley hooker” with a queen. It’s a really bad analogy, says so in the book, but I used it anyway because it always made me smile and think of my sister.

There's one more week to go until release! Check back tomorrow for another BtBL Fun Fact! Be sure to continue following the BtBL Pinterest board for daily teasers.
You can add Bracing the Blue Line to your to-read shelf and enter a giveaway on Goodreads. Don't forget to pre-order it for the special price of $2.99 on Amazon, iBooks, B&N, or Kobo.

Teaser Thursday - You Before Me

Hey, y'all! We're starting today off with not one, but two teasers from You Before Me. Don't forget that you can also read Chapter One. Next week, a teaser will be posted on Tuesday and then Thursday and will continue leading up to the release! I'm so excited and I hope you are too.

These first two teasers are in Gabe's POV and occur at different points during their first date. Enjoy!

At precisely 6:45, I'm standing outside of Ryan's apartment door. She texted me earlier today to let me know which one was hers. I knock twice, faintly able to hear music playing. After the music stops, a moment passes before she answers the door, wearing dark blue jeans and a white strapless bra with a lace design over the cups, and she's currently brushing her teeth.
“Are you ever fully clothed?” I ask with a forced chuckle, trying my best to be a gentleman and not look at her cleavage.
“Sorry,” she mumbles around her toothbrush. Ryan steps aside so I can come inside and runs to finish getting ready. I hear water running and then she calls out, “You shouldn't have had to see that. I should have warned you that I'm always late. Let me throw on a shirt and shoes, and I'll be ready.”
While she does that, I subtly look around her apartment. Books, clothes, and empty bottles of Sunkist are scattered about. It's clean, though. Just a little messy.
“Okay,” Ryan says entering the living room. “I'm ready.”
I turn to see her. Brown boots are peeking from underneath her jeans and she's wearing a white sweater that displays a strong shoulder and collarbone.
“You look great.”
She smiles. “Worth the wait?”

And the second teaser:

“What's one of your favorite things to do?”
Without any hesitation whatsoever, the words fly out of her mouth. “Have sex.”
She catches me off guard with her answer, my fork pausing halfway to my mouth. Ryan's eyes widen as if she's just now realizing she said that.
“Shit. I mean, crap. Sorry. That's, um, not a good, ladylike thing to say.” Her cheeks flush a light pink, her eyes focused on her cake. Something tells me this is the first and last time I'll ever see her blush because it doesn't seem like something she does often.

You Before Me will release June 21, 2014. You can subscribe to my newsletter to read Chapter Two on June 1st. You can also pre-order the book for the special price of 99 cents on iTunes or B&N. Be sure to add it on Goodreads and follow the Pinterest board for weekly pins.

That's it for this week. New teaser coming your way next Tuesday!

What Will 2014 Bring? Plus, the Cover for Our Happily Ever After!

I have been brainstorming and planning new things for 2014 since August. I'm so excited to tell you all about what is coming in this new year. It's a bit long of a post, so I will love you if you read all of it! Especially the last part. But first, I would like to reveal the cover for Our Happily Ever After.

I hope you love it as much as I do. I can't wait to share it with y'all! January 13th is right around the corner!

So what all is happening in 2014, you ask? Keep reading to find out!

New Stories and New Characters
I have a 2014 Release Goal Schedule, which means I have tons of stories planned for 2014! I've been busy working on those since I finished OHEA. Once these projects are closer to completion, I'll start announcing what exactly they are. For now, I'll give a sentence and one word hint for both of my major projects.
  1. One is a series that will consist of six novellas. One word hint: Holidays.
  2. One is a stand-alone that I've been working on for most of December with characters who are more than meets the eye. One word hint: Sexy (<according to Mary Smith haha!)
I hope you're ready to meet new characters, because I'm dying to share them with y'all!

My Monthly Newsletter
I've already announced that this is being revamped. I sent out the first newsletter today and I hope you are all enjoying the new features. Visit this page to subscribe and learn more to about what you would receive by signing up.

National Mental Health Awareness Month
I wanted to do something last year, but thought of it too late to really do anything. NMHAM occurs in May and I'm planning various things to do during that month. But I need your help! To get things organized with an ample amount of time, I'm starting to get things together this month. Please share with anyone you think would be interested to make this a success!

Throughout May, I would like to share two types of guest posts.

I'm looking for authors for a feature tentatively called Anxious Authors. I would like to have authors write about their experiences with mental health and why they would like to raise awareness. They could share something that happened to them or someone else. If you are an author or know someone who would be interested in this, please fill out this form and I will contact you soon.

I'm looking for readers for a feature tentatively called Nervous Readers. The premise is the same, but I want to hear from readers and would like for them to include any books they've read that helps make them more aware of mental health or helped them through a situation. If you are a reader and interested in this, please fill out this form and I will contact you soon.

If you know of any fiction books that feature main characters with a mental disorder, please submit it here! Bonus points if the characters suffer from depression or anxiety, as that's my central focus. I will be taking submissions until mid-April.

There is more that I plan to do, which I will tell about closer to May. A group will be created on Facebook too once things start coming together. If you would like to help out in any way, please send me an email!

That's about it. Happy New Year, y'all!

ALWAYS Has a Synopsis!

I finally knuckled down to the nitty gritty and wrote the synopsis for Always! If you haven't added it to your to-read shelf on Goodreads, here's the link. I hope you are as excited for this installment as I am! Keep an eye out for the cover reveal later this month.

Without further ado, the synopsis:

The fourth installment of the Bold as Love series begins where Whatever It Takes ends. Battles are arising for Emily and Jake individually and together as a couple. It's time for these two to grow up and deal with their demons.
Emily will face her mother one last time and Jake's dream of playing in the NHL is within his grasp. It's essential that this couple stand united while traveling the roads together when one day alters their future forever.
After all, making a dream come true requires hard work and sacrifices.

In case you missed it, here are two teasers that I shared this week. You can find them on the Bold As Love Series board on Pinterest.

A Sneak Peek Into My Mind

First, let me give you a little teaser to show you a bit of what was happening when this little conversation occurred.

How wrong would it be for me to be disappointed? I honestly expected him to be awake and waiting for me, ready to spend time with me before he leaves tomorrow. I thought we would stay up for a while and talk about everything and nothing. None of what we said would have mattered much because we were with each other and loving every second before he takes flight. Yet he was asleep and couldn't wake up enough to even kiss me goodnight.

Then this happened:

Me: Jake, seriously. WTH is wrong with you right now? I honestly don't know what's happening from my thought process to my fingers on the keyboard. It's like you're taking over and writing yourself. Well, YOU'RE BEING AN ASS. Take THAT, Jake!

Jake: *looks on calmly* I'm part of your imagination, so technically, you are calling yourself an ass.

Me: Take your hockey stick and shove it. But really? What's going on?

Jake: I don't feel like cooperating today.

Me: You realize that you acting out doesn't directly bother me, right? You're messing with Emily, not me. Do you want that?

Jake: No...

Jake: Why can't I be an ass every now and then? *says so like being an ass is a good thing*

Me: You know what comes next in this scene. Do you truly want to pick this instance to be a jackwad?

Jake: *his green eyes soften and he shakes his head slowly*

Me: That's what I thought. Now, get back out there and be the man I know you are.

Jake: *rolls his eyes, smiling, and I can see a little bit of Drake just then* Alright, alright. Let's get back to work so I can go be her man.

DON'T PANIC! I have a teaser for you!

See? I think that was pretty clever of me, that title. Anyways, every Saturday between now and October 8th, I'm going to share a teaser from Don't Panic. I really hope y'all enjoy this feature and that it gets you excited about the book. Don't forget to add it to your shelf on Goodreads!

I'm thrilled to be writing this book because I have so many expectations for it and I want it to be a tool to show other teens with anxiety that they are not alone. Plus, I have enjoyed writing this book. It has been helpful for me and my anxiety as well.

On to the teaser!*

Every single day, I walk into my classroom and get this urge to leave. It’s impossible to ignore. The longer I ignore it, the more prominent it is and the harder it is to pretend it isn’t there. It’s even worse when I have to speak or stand in front of everyone. All of a sudden, these things that didn’t bother me do. I have no control and I barely want to leave the house to go to school.
I freeze as I hear water rushing out of a faucet.
What are you doing in here,” a boy asks as he rounds the corner and sees me. “Are you okay?” he adds seeing my frantic expression.
Oh, no. I’m in the boys bathroom.

*Please note that these teasers are may not end up being in the final product of this book. Changes may be made. Please do not quote these teasers until you have checked against the final version.
